Vintage Table Cloths

I adore the graphic artwork on old vintage tablecloths from the 40s-50s.  I have designed several fashion based on these beauties (see below).  Today I just completed re-drawing a tablecloth corner inspired by a quilted favorite named “Wedgewood” by Rhonda Dort.  She quilted over a vintage bridge tablecloth.  Her work is exquisite.  Here is the original quilted piece next to my rendering of a corner.  Love it.  I am not sure what to do with this flourish yet.  Perhaps I could print out a smaller version of the tablecloth (44″ X 44″) and you could try quilting it DIY.  Or maybe a handkerchief.  I am not a quilter, myself.

I can’t wait to make this dress using this table cloth print:

Palm Tree Dress

palm tree dress

This palm tree dress is one of the many reasons to print my own fashions on demand.  I saw this fabulous offering online and had to have it.  BUT the reviews were not so good.  So I decided to wait awhile.  The next time I searched for the dress there were knock-offs everywhere.  Some as low as $5.00.  WHAT?!  Again, the negative reviews on all the offerings were discouraging.  Notice the dress in the photo is obviously a crisp cotton or perhaps linen based on the few visible wrinkles.  Yet,    many reviews stated that a weird polyester fabric arrived and it was not like the picture.  Some customer photos were horrible.  Way short like a top.  Missing the contrasting stripe piping on the cuffs and neck.  I wonder who made the actual palm tree dress in the photo?  I would only be confident buying from that supplier.  But alas, I was not able to confirm who the original designer is  SO…

I constructed my own version of the palm tree dress.  Here is the fabric I came up with:

Palm Tree Fabric

I am almost finished with the prototype of the pattern and will post a sneak peek soon.  The Cut and Sew pattern version printed right on fabric will be aprox. 3 1/2 yards.  Below knee length.  Size 8 to 18.  Choice of color – white, yellow, coral, and soft blue.  The piping is printed right on the project.  The paper version includes piping or facing options.  Poly/Cotton blend.  Contact for more info or reservations.

Chevel Shepherd won THE VOICE – WOW

Chevel Shepherd won THE VOICE!  Wow!  Want to make a Chevele Shepherd dress from The Voice?  I am designing it as we speak and it will be available in January 2019.  Is it exact replica?  No, but close enough for me to wear.  Every year Erin Hirsh, the wardrobe / costume designer seems to come up with a show-stopper. I think this is the one for 2018.  This Chevele Shepherd dress is printed with a large scale old-fashioned style pink rose pattern.  Could this be more perfect for the song choice?  You can order this cut-and-sew fabric or paper pattern soon.  Contact me with your size and I will notify you as soon as it is photographed and available.  The cut-and-sew pattern shapes will be printed right on the fabric so you do not even have to lay it out.  Just sit on the sofa and cut out the shapes.  Then go straight to the sewing machine and sew it up the same day.

Here is my version of the fabric:

BUTTON HOLES ARE THE WORST!

baby romper with cute pig head on bib

You may have noticed that HumptyLabel patterns do not use button hole closures very often.  This is because Humpty Label formats patterns to be QUICK and EASY and button holes are not.  I have a precise method I use for making button holes for myself now, but in the past I have ruined garments at the end, after all my efforts, because of a stupid button hole disaster.  Even today, I break into a sweat when it is time to add the button holes.  I don’t want you folks to experience this stress when couch-cutting the enjoyable projects offered on www.HumptyLabel.com.  These projects are cathardic as well as resulting in a great fashion piece.

If you know of a way to REALLY produce quick and easy button holes, I would love for you to share it with everyone.  Contact me here

Here is how I make perfect button holes now:  I use my VIKING embroidery machine and digitizing software.  I digitize the entire row of identical cut-and paste button holes spaced out exactly as needed.  This is not QUICK nor EASY because after this, the project must be “hooped” which presents its own set of challenges.  But the results are perfect.  I have a stack of garments waiting for their button holes.

Incidentally, I ALWAYS use the button hole presser foot for everything.  It never comes off the machine.  It has measurement lines and is small and I can switch to a zig-zag stitch any time without hunting for another foot.

Please feel free to share your thoughts.

Unique Aprons

burlap apron over wedding dress

I am beginning to offer some very unique fashion aprons soon.  Below is a video of the first faux burlap apron going up.  When this little girl stepped onto the runway, the audience gasped and the music started.  The adult version will be offered with the child version on the same 2-yard panel.  The child version will also be offered alone with a cute bubble hat on a 1-yard panel.  The original in the fashion show was made from a fabric a bit like burlap that I machine embroidered in black.  The one offered on this site is a faux burlap printed on fabric.  The embroidery is also printed.  You don’t have to wear a wedding dress under it.  I will show all the different ways I style it on the actual product page.  But if you want to make a HUGE statement, go to a second hand store and find the perfect wedding dress that suits you.  I did make the child’s dress but cannot offer it on a panel because important sequins are involved.  I do have another dress that looks almost as stunning under this apron that I will get up eventually.  The little girl is from a modelling agency.  She is older now.  The show was a charity event for the food bank here.  Food For Fashion show.  There were other designers showing as well.

TIE DYE PANTS

Have you ever ordered something from a catalog and it was not like the picture?  Here is a perfect example of this:  I fell in love with these pants because they looked like they had a mint background, right?  But notice that the model is in shadow.  So they arrived with a bright white background with garish yellow dye.  And the pants were so long, that they went way past my feet.  I had to return them.  But still, every time I see this picture, I want them again.  I am now trying to reproduce the colors in the photo on my own fabric.  Here it is in progress.  I will finally get to wear these pants.  Perhaps I will trade the black spots for Chinese writing and make a kimono like the one here.  It should be available soon.  We shall see.  Comment if you will buy these pants if I offer them.  5/14/18  Here is my version of the mint colored tie dye fabric.  I love this jumpsuit in lots of fabrics.   Click image to see what I mean.

SUPER LIBERAL RETURN POLICY!

Although it can take over a month of testing to get one of my products up for sale, I have no control over the actual printing of the fabric since it is print-on-demand by a third party.  Also, I am a new upstart business launched in January 2018 and can not afford to have every possible variation of every design on every possible fabrication available.

THEREFORE, if an item you purchase does not meet your standards, please send it back to me and not to the printing facility.  I will be happy to refund everything including shipping both ways in order to see what the printer sent you.  I will deal with the printer from here and make corrections together with them.  Contact me here.

Thank you for being cooperative in this regard.

COUCH-CUTTING – Cut and Sew Fashion Art

cat looking astonished at computer screen

What is “couch-cutting”, you ask?  Couch-Cutting is when you receive my Cut and Sew Fashion Art panels in the mail, go directly to your couch and cut it out.  You do not need a large surface any longer to sew fabulous fashions and projects with my Cut and Sew fabric panels.  Getting started is the hardest part.  Once the pattern pieces are cut out, the hard part is over.  Go to your sewing machine and quickly sew everything together in one day, typically.  I am coining this phrase.  Couch-Cutting.  You heard it here first, Feb 17, 2018 but I have been talking about it since January 1 when I launched my site.   I am coining this phrase today because I have noticed that a large international company is beginning to use my creative concepts to market their patterns.  My product is much cooler, of course, but I suspect they might steal whatever creativity they can from me.  And because they are large and I am small you will probably hear it from them first and it sticks in my craw.  We share a common supplier who is a partner of theirs.
